Matsui, 33, will hold a press conference in Tampa on Thursday morning to provide details of his wedding plans.

I am really surprised about the Japanese press' muted reaction to the Matsui marriage. Given that he was, and largely still is, the Giants "it" boy, you would have thought it would have made a big splash in Japan ala the Nagashima marriage.

It is especially remarkable that he did this without it being leaked beforehand when you take into account the obsessive manner in which Japanese writers follow their prey. I also wonder if it angered any of those writers since, in Japan, to pop an unpleasant surprise (not informing them beforehand) on your friends is the height of rudeness. I'm also sure those reporters caught a lot of flack from editors back home, too. Matsui might have to fork out big during chuugen this year to make amends.

At least this will kill off the rumors that he might be gay.
